Support the Teamsters' Strike at Union Pacific's Overnite Trucking Co.
When workers at Overnite, the trucking subsidiary of Union Pacific, began organizing for Teamster representation, the company responded with one of the worst anti-union, anti-worker campaigns of our generation.
Workers organizing for the union were harassed, intimidated, illegally denied wage increases, beaten up, spied on, followed, forced to attend "captive meetings" and hundreds were illegally fired or disciplined.
Over 1,000 Unfair Labor Practice Charges Have Been Filed Against Overnite
On October 24, 1999, the workers launched an unfair labor practice strike against Overnite after an Operations Manager exposed a conspiracy directed by Overnite's corporate headquarters that resulted in the unlawfully targeting and illegal firing of hundreds of union supporters for infractions fabricated by Overnite officials.
Why We Support the Teamsters Strike at Overnite
This strike is critical to everyone in the Labor Movement because the Overnite workers' conduct was bound by rules of fair play. Overnite's conduct was full of dishonesty, lies, cheating and an absolute refusal to play by the rules. At Overnite, the rights of its workers are worthless. Overnite's wholesale labor law violations must no longer be tolerated.
We call on all union members who believe in the dignity of the workplace, who believe that the laws that protect America's working families should be honored and obeyed, to rise up in indignation at the unmerciful conduct of this rogue, labor law scofflaw called Overnite Transportation Company, a wholly owned subsidiary of Union Pacific Corporation.
Those kindred sould who came before us, fought and died to give us the right to organize. If we do not demand and exercise our legal rights daily, they will be lost to corporate greed. Then whose child must die to regain that which we failed to protect for our children.
