CSX Pauses for Project

JACKSONVILLE -- CSX Transportation Inc. will suspend rail operations on nearly 400 miles of track in the Southeast for the next five days to refurbish rails, roadbeds, bridges and grade crossings, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reports.

The company is mobilizing more than 800 people and 360 pieces of equipment to do in less than a week a project that ordinarily would take about three months to complete.

Through Friday, the Jacksonville-based railroad is suspending train operations on its rail lines that extend from Montgomery, Ala., to New Orleans and from Flomaton, Ala., to Pensacola, Fla., to permit uninterrupted track work.

More than 200 trains that ordinarily travel these rail corridors will be detoured. CSX Transportation is a subsidiary of Richmond, Va.-based CSX Corp.
