Amtrak Train Evacuated in Missouri

BOSWORTH, Kan. -- More than 100 people were evacuated from an Amtrak passenger train Tuesday night in Bosworth, about 65 miles northeast of Kansas City, and a bomb-sniffing dog was called in to search the train, the Kansas City Star reports.

The Carroll County Sheriff's Department said Amtrak notified authorities of the emergency stop about 10 p.m. The train's 112 passengers and crew were taken to a school in Bosworth, the department said.

An Amtrak spokeswoman said the railroad passenger operation received a nonspecific threat against the Southwest Chief, which travels through Kansas City between Los Angeles and Chicago. Four trains actually bear the name, and all of them were searched.

A bomb-sniffing dog was headed to the scene from Whiteman Air Force Base, about 50 miles away, authorities said.
