CAMDEN, Ark. -- Seven Union Pacific railroad cars derailed at
approximately 5 a.m. this morning north of Eagle Mills, Ark.. There
were no reported injuries caused by the incident, the Camden News
reports.
According to Ouachita County Sheriff's Office Chief
Deputy Paul Lucas, three empty flatcars and four boxcars derailed
when the rail broke on a side track. Attempts to contact a
spokesperson from Union Pacific to find out why the track broke were
unsuccessful. Two of the boxcars were empty, one was carrying a roll
of paper and the other was carrying kitchen appliances, according to
Lucas. All of the derailed cars remained upright after the
derailment.
The derailment was on a side track and did not
disrupt train traffic.
Deputies were released from the scene
after about an hour. Ouachita County Emergency Management
Coordinator Henry Primm said the incident did not pose a risk to the
surrounding community.
