| Chicago Exec Wants to Buy North Coast Railroad |
| EUREKA,
Cal. -- A Chicago-area man says he still wants to buy the venerable
North Coast Railroad and reopen at least part of the line within a
year, the Associated Press reported.
However, Ted Niemeyer of Niemeyer and Associates has yet to provide the North Coast Railroad Authority with a proposal for the purchase. Niemeyer said yesterday his people are working on financing and the details of attracting business to support the line. There are major hurdles he must deal with. For one thing, the sale would require an act of the Legislature. And a variety of environmental issues are likely to tie up the project for well beyond a year. Niemeyer says he wants to operate the entire 365 miles of railroad from Napa County to Samoa on the Humboldt County coast. |
