BNSF Coal Trains Collide
WRIGHT, Wyo. -- Two BNSF coal trains --- one empty, one loaded -- collided in the Powder River Basin Saturday, injuring the two crew members on each train, the Associated Press reported.

The AP said that the northbound train with 119 empty coal cars ran into the southbound and stopped train, which was pulling 123 loaded coal cars.

The two crew members on the stationary train were treated for minor injuries. The two aboard the moving train were hospitalized for back and neck injuries, said Campbell County Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Rech.

One remained hospitalized for observation late Saturday, said Gus Melonas, a railroad spokesman based in Seattle.

The AP reported that the crew of the empty train might have missed a signal, with the train traveling at about 30 mph.

The four lead cars on the empty train derailed but its two engines stayed on the track. Both engines and the three lead cars of the loaded train derailed.
