Fleming Elected to 4th Term as President
Simpson Elected to Succeed Retiring LaRue as Secretary-Treasurer
At BMWE 44th Regular Grand Lodge Convention
 Las Vegas, Nevada

Southfield, Michigan, July 11, 2002 — On Tuesday, July 9, 2002, the BMWE held elections to fill the offices of its 15 Grand Lodge Officers — President, Secretary-Treasurer, seven Vice Presidents and six members of the Executive Board. Results of the elections were not complete until midnight because there were ballots cast in 12 of the 15 races. The other three officers had no opposition and were elected by acclamation. The four-year term of office begins September 1, 2002.

Mac A. Fleming was elected to his fourth four-year term as President, defeating challengers James D. Knight and Ronald Friend. "I am gratified to be elected to a fourth term and look forward to serving the membership together with the rest of the officers and staff," said President Fleming. "We all look forward to working with the other rail unions to advance our common agenda."

Freddie N. Simpson of Richmond, Kentucky was elected to succeed William E. LaRue who is retiring August 31, 2002 after serving 28 years as an elected representative and 12 as Secretary-Treasurer. Simpson defeated Dana Booth.

Ken M. Deptuck was elected to his third term as one of the two Vice Presidents from Canada. Ronald F. Liberty of Winnipeg, Manitoba was elected as the second Vice President from Canada. Deptuck and Liberty defeated incumbent Gary D. Housch and challengers John Kruk and Louis Wilson. Steven Crawford of Kamloops, British Columbia defeated incumbent Ron Bowden as Executive Board member from Canada.

Henry W. Wise, Jr., of Slatington, Pennsylvania was elected to his third term as Northeast Region Vice President, defeating challenger C. Perry Rapier. Perry Geller, Sr., of Port Clinton, Ohio defeated incumbent Jed Dodd as Executive Board member of the Northeast Region.

Leon R. Fenhaus of Wakonda, South Dakota was elected to succeed Ernie L. Torske who is retiring as Vice President of the Northwest Region. Fenhaus defeated Allan Scott. David D. Joynt of Hastings, Nebraska defeated incumbent Bruce Glover as Executive Board member from the Northwest Region.

J. R. "Randy" Cook of Kaleva, Michigan defeated challenger Hayward Granier as Vice President of the Southeast Region. Gary Cox of Birmingham, Alabama was elected by acclamation to the position of Executive Board member of the Southeast Region. Incumbent Tom R. McCoy chose not to run for re-election.

Incumbent Richard Spears was elected by acclamation as Vice President of the Southwest Region. Bill R. Palmer defeated challenger Roger D. Sanchez for the position of Executive Board member for the Southwest Region.

Rick B. Wehrli was re-elected by acclamation as Vice President of the Western Region. David D. Tanner of Lyman, Wyoming defeated incumbent Louis R. Below and challenger Henry Jajuga as Executive Board member from the Western Region.
