RE: "No Stipend" Hazmat Training Program, September 15-19, 2002

This is to advise that the Railway Workers' Hazardous Materials Training Program is offering a "No Stipend" hazmat training program September 15-19, 2002 at the George Meany Center/National Labor College in Silver Spring, MD.

As you may be aware, many of our training programs are over-subscribed and our training funds are limited. Perhaps due to the events of September 11, 200, there seems to be an even heavier volume of applications for hazmat training. Since we cannot possibly accommodate the number of rail workers interested in receiving four-day hazmat training under our normal operating budget, we are once again offering a "no stipend" program for rail union members interested in attending under the following terms:

Participants confirmed to attend this program will be provided with round trip transportation, and room and board at the George Meany Center in Silver Spring, MD. The training program and course content is identical to our regularly scheduled four-day hazmat training programs. However, as a "no stipend" program, we are unable to provide participants the $428 weekly stipend due to an unavailability of funds.

The program addresses training requirements of both DOT and OSHA and is an excellent union-based source of worker-centered safety and health instruction. If you have any questions or would like to enroll in the September 2002 program, please do not hesitate to contact me at 301-431-5435 or via e-mail at: bcantrell@georgemeany.org. Participants will be confirmed on a first-come, first-served basis. Please be advised that training participants will be responsible for securing time off duty to attend. Early enrollment is encouraged to take advantage of the best available air fares.

Looking forward to hearing from you and seeing you in September!
