If the debt ceiling situation is resolved, Congress will
likely be in recess beginning on August 8 and ending after
Labor Day. At this time, members of the House of
Representatives and Senate will be in their home districts
and states conducting meetings, appearing at events and
meeting with their constituents.
Reporting Form
On behalf of the 1.4 million men and women of the
International Brotherhood of Teamsters, I am urging you to
oppose any agreement to raise the debt ceiling that would
come on the backs of the middle-class, seniors, children,
and people with disabilities.
As a union, we need to make sure that our state and federal
legislators know that we, as their constituents, believe in
funding high speed rail. Incredibly, three Governors and
some state legislators have turned down high speed rail
funds. And, others are trying to use Public Private
Partnerships to build their rail infrastructure.
On May 26, 2011, the Committee on Transportation and
Infrastructure held a hearing on "Opening the Northeast
Corridor to Private Competition for Development of
High-Speed Rail." At that hearing, you circulated a chart
derived from Amtrak annual and monthly reports which showed
a decrease in ridership on the Northeast Corridor (NEC) from
10.6 million riders in 1977 to 10.5 million riders in 2010.
Discussion Draft. June 15th, 2011. To develop high-speed
rail in the Northeast Corridor through a public-private
partnership, and to encourage private sector competition on
intercity passenger rail corridors.
Article XII, Section 3 of the National Division Bylaws
governing State Legislative Boards and legislative
activities requires that your Local Lodge elect, at a
Regular or Special Meeting held between January 1 and June
30, 2011, a Local Legislative Representative to serve as a
member on the Legislative Board in your respective state to
represent the lodge in
legislative matters.
As a BMWED-IBT Member, you can be a
part of those who protect the future of Teamster Rail
Employees by volunteering to join D.R.I.V.E.
D.R.I.V.E. is the Teamsters Union shield against anti-worker
forces and helps elect the right people to office; people
who understand the needs of the working family. Decisions
made by elected government officials, especially at the
national level, have a profound impact on our lives and
families. Now, more than ever, we must make our needs known
loud and clear.
BMWED-IBT believes in supporting the election of leaders who
understand and embrace the issues that are important to
American workers. Therefore, being a part of a strong
political action committee, like D.R.I.V.E., is essential as
it guarantees that our unified voice is heard in ways that
get attention, which leads to victories for our members.
This is why your voluntary participation in, and
contributions to D.R.I.V.E. are crucial.
