Whether
youre taking a family vacation, or traveling for
fun, your trip will be safer, more enjoyable and less
expensive if you travel the "union way." A
little research will help you choose the union hotel,
rental car, airline, train or bus service that best meets
your needs. The
following unions helped with this list:
Air Line Pilots
Association (ALPA)
Association of Flight Attendants (AFA)
Flight Engineers International Association (FEIA)
International Association of Machinists and Aerospace
Workers (IAM)
International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT)
International Chemical Workers Union (ICWU)
Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers International Union
(OCAW)
Transport Workers Union of America (TWU)
Transportation Communications International Union (TCU)
United Food and Commercial Workers International Union
(UFCW)
United Industrial Workers (UIW)
United Transportation Union (UTU)
United Steelworkers of America (USWA)
Caution: choosing
union hotels can be tricky because each hotel within a
chain negotiates its own union contracts. Same with
airlines. Delta, for example, is unionized except for the
flight attendants. So its best to call ahead and
ask good questions about your prospective hotels or
airlines union orientation.
Also be sure to think
union when shopping for the luggage, toiletries, sports
and recreational equipment youll be taking on your
trip.
Please note that not
all plants are unionized, which means some products in
some areas wont be entirely union made. Also, not
all products have been listed. For more information,
write to the AFL-CIO Union Label and Service Trades
Dept., 815 16th Street N.W., Washington, D.C. 20006; or
call (800)-LABEL-91.
