43rd Grand Lodge Convention
(July 13 - 17, 1998 Montreal, Quebec)
Montreal to Serve As
Host City
The BMWEs 43rd
Grand Lodge Convention is less than a year away and
preparations for the week-long meeting which has
jurisdiction over all matters pertaining to the BMWE is
underway.
The convention is
scheduled for July 13 - 17, 1998 at the Queen Elizabeth
Hotel in Montreal. Montreal was selected as the host city
in keeping with the tradition established in 1906 of
holding every fourth convention in Canada. Vancouver,
British Columbia was the site of the 1982 convention and
in 1966 it was Montreal. The first convention held in
Montreal was in 1952.
Grand Lodge conventions
are held every four years, in accordance with the
BMWEs Constitution and By-Laws.
Each subordinate lodge in
good standing is entitled to be represented at the
convention by a delegate who is entitled to cast one vote
for every member in good standing of the membership he
represents.
Actions taken by the
delegates to the 43rd Grand Lodge Convention will direct
the BMWE into the 21st century. The delegates will also
elect the Grand Lodge Officers who will lead the BMWE as
it reaches the year 2000.
Delegates chart the
course of the BMWE primarily through acting on the
Constitution and By-Laws. Considering proposed changes
will be one of the most important functions the delegates
undertake at the convention.
On page 7 of this issue
of the Journal is an article outlining the process
by which the Constitution and By-Laws can be amended and
the dates by which any proposed changes should be
submitted to Grand Lodge. Proposed changes will be
printed in the Journal.
