Dear President Fleming:
At our lodge's last regular meeting a motion was made
that I write to you, asking your support in a matter of
great importance to the members of this ledge, and I'm
sure most every BMWE member in the U.S.A.
Presently, the average age of MofW employees is
approaching the late e40s, and the length of service is
20 years and greater. We feel that the retirement age
requirements must be changed, allowing us to retire after
30 years service. This would allow a person to put in his
time and then vacate his position while still young
enough to enjoy a quality life while in retirement.
Obviously, this is going to take a nationally coordinated
lobbying movement. You, as Editor of the BMWE Journal,
have the knowledge and resources to initiate such a
movement. In addition, we are requesting this letter be
published in the upcoming issue of the Journal
in order to get our message out to all BMWE members. We
believe this change would be favorable to the national
economy by creating positions for "new hires."
The aggressive approach we can take towards this would be
a win-win situation for all.
Lodge 1432 expects a favorable response from you on this
matter. With solidarity, unity, and organization we can
accomplish this monumental task.
Harold R. Dykes, President Subordinate Lodge 1432
Youngstown, Ohio
