On Friday of the Convention, time was taken to honor the memory of those BMWE brothers and sisters who have passed away since the previous convention. The delegates stood in silence, appropriate music was played and each of the four large screens in the hall displayed the plaque that hangs at Grand Lodge while the names of those brothers and sisters killed in the line of duty slowly scrolled across each screen.

Vice President Henry W. Wise, Jr., conducted the ceremony and said the following words, "We gather to pay tribute and remember those brothers and sisters who have passed away since our last convention. Our memories of these individuals are fond. They were our friends, coworkers, neighbors, but most importantly, they are our brothers and sisters. Like us, they worked hard and long, suffered through the stifling heat and bone-chilling cold to do their share to make Canada and the United States the great countries that they are. These brothers and sisters should never be forgotten.

"As you are aware, a plaque was dedicated at the 42^nd Grand Lodge Convention in memory of those brothers and sisters who have been killed in the line of duty. The plaque hangs at the BMWE Grand Lodge and serves as a reminder that men and women like us had their lives cut short because of tragedy. When we think of this memorial, let us all remind ourselves that but for the grace of God, we too could share their fate.

"As we gather here today, let us look upon those who have gone on before us in the line of duty and all of those before them and stand in silent prayer asking God to grant them peace they also deserve."
