You're more powerful than you think. Elections are often decided by a few thousand, even a few hundred votes.

In 1996, 10,000 more Democratic votes spread over 11 Congressional Districts would have given the Democrats the majority in the House, made Jim Oberstar House Transportation Committee Chair and made your life better and your paycheck bigger.

In 1990, Republican Newt Gingrich, Georgia 6th District, beat Democrat David Worley by 974 votes. How a few more Democratic votes would have changed history!

In 1994, Democrat Sam Gejdenson, Connecticut 3rd District beat Republican Ed Munster by 21 votes.

In 1994, Democrat Elizabeth Furse, Oregon 1st District won by just 301 votes.

In 1996, Republican Jon Fox, Pennsylvania 13th District beat Democrat Joseph Hoeffel by 84 votes. Fox is that rare pro-labor Republican and favored preserving labor protection on AMTRAK.

In 1996, Democrat John Tierney, Massachusetts 6th District beat Republican incumbent Peter Torkildson by just 371 votes and a rematch between them is coming up this time.

In 1996, Democrat Loretta Sanchez, California 46th District, beat Republican "B-1 Bob" Dorman by 984 votes.

There are 431,488 union members in Washington, but 245,948 aren't registered to vote. Last time Congresswoman (R-WA-3rd) Linda Chase Smith (a tax consultant) won by just 887 votes over Democrat Brian Baird. Now, she's voting for tax cuts for the rich and siding with insurance companies and big HMOs instead of us.

Register. VOTE. Vote like your paycheck depended on it. It does.
