In a recently discovered booklet about the union shop, famed trial lawyer Clarence
Darrow had this to say about the non-union man:
"The non-union man may join the enemy to defeat shorter hours and better wages,
but when he has lost his fight and the unions have triumphed, he is always the first man
to demand the rewards of another's effort and to profit from the courage and devotion of
the man he did his best to defeat and betray."
