BMWE Shocked and Saddened by Untimely Death of VP Borden

December 27, 1941 - February 5, 2001

Larry W. Borden, Vice President of the BMWE's Southwest Region passed away suddenly on February 5 while attending a Grand Lodge Officers meeting in Miami, Florida.

Brother Borden started his railroad career with the Texas & Pacific as a trackman and joined the BMWE in May 1971. He soon became active in BMWE affairs in Lodge 1193 and was elected as local lodge secretary-treasurer in 1972. In 1984 he was elected as General Chairman of the Missouri Pacific System Federation, a position he held until he assumed the office of vice president in 1994.

"Vice President Borden will always be remembered for his compassionate concern for the brothers and sisters of the BMWE," said President Mac A. Fleming. "His untiring devotion to working for the betterment of his fellow man is just one of his numerous contributions to not only the BMWE but to all society. I join all in the BMWE in extending our deepest condolences to his family. It goes without saying that we will profoundly miss Larry’s contributions and his leadership."

Brother Borden, 59, was born in Bowling Green, Kentucky but lived in Texas for many years. He is survived by his wife Jynelle, three children, Cary, James and Laura and five grandchildren.
