I am a major insulator collector who is
building toward developing a national insulator museum. There are over
1,000,000 different insulator shapes, colors, manufacturers and styles
in existence. The earliest insulator was developed in the mid-1800s
for use on the telegraph lines. These early insulators were known as
threadless insulators since they were smooth on the inside and were
attached to the wooden pegs with pine tar. These insulators are hard
to find today because they were removed by smashing them with a hammer
to remove them from the pegs to make way for the new threaded types.
Most glass insulators went out of service in the 1850s. My collection
includes insulators from the early telegraph lines to modern day
telephone and signal lines. I have colors ranging from red, amber,
yellow, cobalt blue, electric blue, blackglass, etc. If any BMWE
members would like to earn extra income for their insulators and
preserve a piece of American history, please have them give me a call.
I seek single pieces to large collections. This is a great way to
preserve the history of insulators (no insulators will be resold—
for my collection only). I pay top $ for good glass. Any interested
BMWE members should call Steve at 518-877-0861 or e-mail at stevejeffes@yahoo.com.
Thank you
