Remembering Brother Jarrett Erhart

Published: Dec 9 2019 1:55PM

Another of our Amtrak brothers has died on the job, the second tragedy in the last two weeks.

Brother Jarrett Erhart, 27, was fatally injured after a transformer explosion at Amtrak Sub #46 in the Bronx.

Brother Jarrett started his railroad career in 2017, first with the BMWED and recently with the IBEW, working as a substation electrician. A railroader through-and-through, Brother Jarrett enjoyed his job, was a proud Union member, and was well-known on Amtrak as a kind, smiling, hard-working friend to many.

A veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Brother Erhart served two distinguished tours in the Middle East. He is survived by his wife, Emily and a long list of friends and family.

Our deepest and most sincere condolences go out to Brother Jarrett’s friends and family. He will be greatly missed by his Amtrak brethren of the BMWED and IBEW.

As noted, this is the second fatality of Amtrak in a matter of weeks, and we implore and insist that Amtrak management take the necessary steps to eliminate these tragic occurrences before another life is lost and a family injured.
