BMWED Proudly Supports Striking LIRR Workers Published: May 18 2026 12:33PM
UntitledBMWED-IBT President Tony Cardwell, UPRF General Chairperson Anthony Sessa and members of BMWED staff joined our Teamster Rail Conference Brothers and Sisters at BLE-T, standing alongside BRS, IAMAW, IBEW, and TCU in solidarity with 3,500 rail workers who have launched a strike at the Long Island Rail Road.
This marks the first strike at the LIRR in 32 years at the nation’s busiest commuter railroad, serving more than 300,000 daily passengers each day. Teamster members with the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen, representing more than 500 locomotive engineers, have gone three years without raises while negotiating a new contract.
BMWED-IBT proudly stands united with our fellow rail labor unions in support of these workers as they fight for the fair contract they have earned and deserve.
