On Nov. 8, the BMWED engaged in nation-wide informational picketing focused on the current round of collective bargaining with the Class 1 freights. Hundreds of railroaders united outside of their workplaces to protest corporate greed and unwarranted changes to our healthcare benefits.

The Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Frisco (AT&SFF) System Federation held its Second Quadrennial Convention in Orlando, Florida on June 6 and 7, 2017. The Convention was conducted with 42 Joint Protective Board Members present with 34 voting delegates.

Thanks to the efforts of BMWED State Legislative Director Brother Tim Even (BurNor System Fed Lodge 2825 — BNSF Railroad), South Dakota is the latest state (and the eleventh total) to add “on-track equipment” to its laws covering highway railroad crossings equipped with stop signs, signals and crossing gates, and/or crossing flagmen.

The Allied Federation held its Quadrennial Convention this past October in Tampa, Florida. The Convention began on October 4 with 70 delegates present, representing 104 Allied Federation Lodges. All 16 full-time System Officers were reelected by acclimation, including General Chairman Dennis Albers. One vacant officer position was filled by newly elected Brandon Fuhrhop, who was also voted in unopposed.
