Published: Mar 1 2021 6:21PM

The BMWED National Division Executive Board has authorized a $500 Disaster Relief Benefit to BMWED Members residing in Texas who suffered one of the losses detailed below due to the abnormal winter storm weather occurring the week of February 15, 2021:

-Suffered severe damage to their home (e.g., frozen pipes, bursting pipes with flooding, etc.).
-Home was uninhabitable for at least one night, forcing the Member to find and pay for shelter elsewhere.
-Could not report to work for at least one day and was not paid for the day by their employer as a result of the winter storm.
-Was hospitalized due to an accident directly related to the winter storm weather (e.g., automobile pile-up).

Note that in all instances above, the Member must provide proof their home suffered severe damage (e.g., insurance claim, pictures of frozen, burst pipes, etc.), or that their home was not livable for the day claimed (e.g., receipt from hotel for date claimed, insurance claim, etc.), or that they could not work (e.g., copy of payroll, statement from supervisor, etc.) and/or that they were hospitalized due to an accident directly related to the winter storm weather (e.g., police report, insurance claim, etc.).

Members who believe they qualify for the disaster relief should contact Executive Assistant to the Secretary-Treasurer, Angela Carr, by phone at (248) 662-2608 or via email at acarr@bmwe.org to apply for these benefits.
